A ground-breaking Scripps Howard News Service study says that vegetables could be nearly "as dangerous as under-cooked meat". Over a five-year period, 19,000 people had incidents related to fresh veggies. Over the same period, 22,600 people had incidents related to under-cooked meat.
Meanwhile, 3rd graders from Mrs. Simpson's class at Jimmy Carter High School in the Rio Grande Valley pointed out yesterday that the study doesn't appear to adjust for frequency of consumption. That is, eating meat - especially under-cooked meat - is a much "rarer" occurence for most people than eating fresh veggies, which could include things such as salad.
